Port Phillip
Said to have greater biodiversity than its more famous sister, the Great Barrier Reef, Port Phillip swims with over five hundred species of fish - ninety percent of which aren't found anywhere else on the planet – together with over 1000 species of marine plants and animals. The Bottlenose dolphin is a resident along with the Australian Fur Seal and the very occasional Southern Right Whale.
Spread out over 2000 square kilometres and featuring more than 250 km of coastline and known to locals as “the Bay”, Port Phillip comprises 16 separate bays, together with islands, shipwrecks and marine reserves.
Whether you want to be on, off or under the water, St Kilda is great a place to launch yourself into the Bay.
